Our Story

Our journey began in 1984 when our grandfather Ross Wagland retired from a 30-year career in Law and decided to return to his farming roots by purchasing 'Maroona' - a 400-acre property in Glen Innes, part of the New England region of New South Wales. The New England region is a highly fertile and productive part of the state and is home to a significant number of highly experienced primary producers.

Ross started the farm with only a few hundred sheep grazing at Maroona as he and his wife Lorraine split their time between the farm and Sydney. Ross laid the foundation for ‘Happy Valley’, with a commitment to ethical and responsible cattle farming practices.

Over the years, the farm has evolved and grown. We began breeding Angus cattle in the early 2000s, which is now our primary production business. Ross passed away in 2018, but his passion for the farm continues to run strong within the four generations of our family. Today, Happy Valley has a herd of over 200 breeder cows/heifers on 2000 acres of grazing land.
